Door knocker with backplate
Central Europe, 17th century
Malleable iron round bar ring with incisions on the ends and a centre ring knob serving as the hammer. On each side, two smooth bars with ball terminals are mortised and forge-welded to the ring. Backplate lined with a wire collar and filled with foliage ornamentation. Shaped, forged square bar ring mount. Decorated with grooving.
